Fall 2010 Newsletter
THE MAGIC OF AUTUMN

As the leaves begin to turn the beautiful colors of fall we, "Blast From The Past", are once again thinking toward the magic of the holidays.  We have a lot of great things going on and cant wait to share them all with you.
Before I give you our new updated schedule let me share with you some information about some of the members of our group.
Daryl Shackleford went to Peru in late July and came back with more than pictures!!  He contracted a parasite which has taken him apox 6 weeks to get rid of.... They told him "dont drink the water" but they didnt tell him not to eat the ice cream that had been dipped with a dipper that HAD been cleaned with "the water".  Live and learn, I bet that dont happen again!  LOL  He is doing fine now and is ready to hit the road running with our holiday shows.
Brenda Mitchell, thats me, has been up to her usual Internet surfing looking for all the coolest places to perform, and I have found lots of places... I am working hard in the gym these days trying to keep up with the young folks in this group...thats a hard task!  I have spent a lot of time in Destin, FL over the summer and had a great time with family and friends.  Speaking of friends I wanted to say a huge thank you to  Bob & Earleen Findley, they have been special friends of ours for several years now and I love spending time talking with them.
Tiffany Mitchell is right in the middle of nursing school and is studying ALL THE TIME.  She is doing great in school and I have no doubt that she will pass all her classes with flying colors.
Barry Wiginton is working hard to get his real estate license and having fun riding his motorcycle especially on these cool mornings.
We are ready and anxious for the shows we have booked in the near future. Below are the shows we currently have on the books...and we are working on several others so stay tuned for those updates as they occur:

Update:
Happy really hot summer!!  We hope that you have been doing great, we have been very, very busy and we wanted you to know a few of the things we have been keeping ourselves busy with....

Daryl Shackleford (The Duke & Delvis) went on a mission trip with his church to Peru.  He was gone a large part of the month of July.  We are happy to have him back home and ready to get back to work spreading the oldies.

Barry Wiginton (Mr. Bassman) paid a visit to LA and to West Palm Beach, FL in the month of July, so he was gone for a couple of weeks.  He said that he loved LA and wants to go back again.  He already has plans to go back to West Palm Beach.  Barry has also purchased his first home and is working hard to get ready to have the group over for a BBQ.  We are glad he was able to soak up some west coast sun but he is back and ready to hit the road with the oldies group once again.

Tiffany Mitchell (Lil Bit) has made numerous trips to Destin, FL where she has had the opportunity to enjoy some fun in the sun.  Congrats to Tiffany for being accepted into Nursing School.  She will begin classes on the 19th of this month.  Wish her luck (she is going to need it)!

Brenda Mitchell (thats me) has been holding down the fort and working hard to book bigger and better shows.  I have taken my laptop to the country club and have spent long days in the sun finding more venues to perform our show.  It has been a lot of fun and I enjoy working hard and seeing my work pay off.  Barney, my husband, is doing great and has been busy doing his own "1 Bullet Deputy" shows across the state.  I am ready to hit the road running dragging a poodle skirt behind me....

Here are a list of the new shows I have booked in the past month:

Our biggest and best show to date will be on Thursday night, Aug. 19th at the Beau Rivage in Biloxi, MS.  Our show will be in one of the many conference rooms at this luxurious hotel on the coast.  We are privileged to be able to perform our show for one of the finest hotels on the coast and hope that our fans in that area will come out to see us.  As I mentioned above, Tiffany, starts nursing school on this same date, for this reason, we have chartered a plane to take her from the B'ham airport directly to Gulfport, MS and then back to B'ham again after the show.  I asked Tiffany if she felt like a star since she will be flown in for the show, perform, sign a few autographs and be flown back home...her answer, "Show me the money"!  Gotta love 'Lil Bit'.

Barney will be at The Butterbean Festival in Pinson, AL on Sat. Sept. 4th so come out to see him if you are in the area.

We have a recording party planned for Sat. Oct. 2nd...this will be the day we put the finishing touches on our new Holiday CD.  You are going to laugh your head off when you see the CD cover!!

On Oct. 5th, Tue night we'll be performing in Tallassee, AL.  We will be at the high school and our show begins at 7pm.  We would love to see our Montgomery, AL fans at this show.

On Oct. 16th Barney will be at the Attalla City Fest....dont miss him and his 1959 Custom Ford car.

Oct. 30th we will perform for the good people in Opp, AL for the OppFest.  This will be a daytime event and everyone is welcome.

I wont bore you will the details of all the Holiday shows we have booked just yet...I'll at least wait until the weather cools off before hitting you with that info.

Last, but not least, we have been contacted by channel 33/40 here in the B'ham area about performing live on their morning show, "Talk Of Alabama".  The date for this live performance is Monday, Aug. 9th, which is THIS Monday morning at 9AM.  Please dont miss it..we'll be promoting our upcoming Beau Rivage show and some other events. If you happen to miss it we'll be putting it on YouTube and on our web site, so try to catch it there.

That is about it, for now...but there will be lots more news in the near future...I just dont want to jinks the shows by announcing them before the contracts are signed.

Thank you for being a fan of our Acappella Oldies Group, "Blast From The Past".  Dont let the name fool you, we were "Back In Time" for the first part of our performing years but felt the need for a name change and 2 fresh voices.   For the past 10 years Daryl and I have been bringing you the best in Acappella Oldies Shows and will continue to do that in the future especially since we now have Tiffany Mitchell and Barry Wiginton on board to complete the look and sound of the wonderful 50's & 60's.

We look forward to performing in a city near you soon,
Brenda Mitchell for

Saturday, June 26th sponsored by Main Street Cruisers Car Club - Cleveland, TN -  We will perform from 5pm - 7:30pm on the Bradley County Courthouse steps.  For more information on this show view www.mainstreetcruisers.com

Up Close & Personal
Barry Wiginton is our bass singer and is from Tallassee, AL where he graduated from Faulkner University in Montgomery.  Barry is a great asset to our group and has the perfect bass voice.  He is kind and talented, a hard worker but knows how to have fun, especially on stage.  Barry has just purchased and moved into his new home in Calera, AL.  We are very happy to have the opportunity to work with this very talented young man and look forward to many more years of fun with him on stage and off.

Daryl Shackleford sings a lot of lead in our group and is a whiz with the sound board.  Daryl does all of our recording and is very patient and persistent in making sure every note is on key.  We appreciate his ability to perform the Elvis songs with all of the enthusiasm and charm that songs like that take.

Brenda Mitchell, that's me, works hard to book our shows and manage all the events.  It takes hard work and dedication to keep a show like ours on the road spreading the oldies and I love it.  I am happy to put all of the time and effort into our show.  I know someone else could probably do a better job, but I know for a fact that they would not enjoy it as much as I do... :-)

Tiffany Mitchell has blossomed into not only a wonderful singer/performer but beautiful young lady.  If you want a real treat just come to our show and watch this classic beauty at work.  She sings like no other and has fun doing it.  She brings excitement and personality to the stage and we appreciate all of her abilities on stage and off.

So, there you have it..... our group, "Blast From The Past"....  We love each and every one of you guys and know that we would be nothing without your love and support...  We thank God every day for the abilities that we have been given and want to use them to not only spread the oldies but to spread cheer and enjoyment to all of our fans.  We will be taking the month of July off due to some of the members of our group being in LA and out of the country for a while.  We have some shows in the works for Aug - Dec and I'll be updating you guys about those soon.

Thanks to you for your continued kindness toward us,
Brenda Mitchell for

We have doubled our "fan club" size over the past 6 months so hopefully that is an indication as to our growing popularity.  We want to make sure that all of our fans feel the love we have for each of you so when you come to one of our shows please come to our CD table area so we can personally thank you for coming!  We want to recognize anyone in our fan club that is having a birthday in the month of May and June, so please respond to this email and give me your birth date information.  I'll get it on the web site as soon as I get it.

I wanted to give you guys an update about our trip to LA.  Me, (Brenda), and David, won a trip to Los Angeles, CA to watch 2 tapings of American Idol on March 16th & 17th.  It was the most wonderful trip EVER!  We had Limo service while in LA and had time to visit the Pacific Coast up to Malibu Beach, and down to Venice Beach and Santa Monica Pier.  It was a great several days and we have hundreds of pictures to show for it.

I'd like to give a special thank you to Kevin Adams "Review of the Stars" for making our trip to the Chattanooga and Birmingham World of Wheels shows two of the best weekends that we, as a group, have had.  Not only is he a wonderful performer but is one of the nicest guys you would ever want to meet.  Thanks Kevin!!

Hope to see you soon, but until then....May God bless you and your family,
